Teaching Moms
Since children don’t come with an owner’s manual, we try to help parents learn skills that will help them in their important roles. The primary goal of AMI is to assist mothers in rearing and educating their children, and to help them feel JOY in doing so!
Throughout the year study groups meet to share personal growth and to receive support, encouragement, and practical lessons on mothering. Our goal is to increase neighborhood support groups for mothers of young children, mothers of teens, and grandmothers.
These support groups utilize the principles taught in “The Power of Positive Parenting,” a common-sense manual endorsed by the national organization of AMI. This manual was written by the late Dr. Glenn Latham, a behavior analyst who won international acclaim from parents and professionals alike for his practical and effective approach for encouraging good behavior. Manuals can be purchased from our association at our cost.
In addition, we will have an annual Mother’s conference in fall 2008 with outstanding speakers and workshops.
Sometimes mothers may want persona coaching from someone who has “been there” and who can help with her specific situation. We have a great resource of experienced mothers and mothers who are currently “in the trenches.” Our association can link moms together for one-on-one mother mentoring. This is done on a volunteer basis and there is no fee.
